Danny and Adrian are hosting a dating event and plan to get 'more matches than MAFS'

Look out, MAFS experts! Married at First Sight (MAFS) alumni and self-proclaimed “super villains” Danny Hewitt and Adrian Araouzou are joining forces to hold a matchmaking event, with proceeds set to go to charity.

The pair announced the event yesterday via Instagram and TikTok. It kicks off with Adrian teasing, “what happens when you get two MAFS supervillains together?,” with Danny going on to quip, “women get gaslighted!” Hilarious. The jokester goes on to say he was only kidding, and that actually, “a f**kload of money gets raised for charity.”

Adrian then adds that he and Danny have decided to team up and “use [their] platform for a good cause,” with Danny adding the two are going to get 100 singles together and get “more matches than MAFS”.

The event will be held at Sauci Pasta Bar. the Italian restaurant Adrian owns with his twin brother, James, which is located in Carnegie VIC. Speaking to Chattr, Adrian says that he had met Danny before he went on the show. “I met Danny before the show and he’s genuinely a good guy regardless of the mistakes he made on TV,” Adrian says.

He adds that while many MAFS contestants get “good edits”, not many of them did anything good for the people around them. “Anyone can get the “good guy” edit or portray a perfect life online through highlight reels. But not many people actually use their platform to bring people together and do something positive in real life.”

At one point Adrian seemed to take a dig at MAFS, stating, “Trust us, we’re not here to create some drama-filled TV show. We can definitely do a better job than that!”

When is the singles event and what charity is being donated to?

Danny states in the video that the event will take place on June 7 in Melbourne, and 100 tickets will be available.

When we asked about what charities will be donated to, Adrian reckons the details are still being ironed out. “We’re still finalising the charity because we want to make sure it’s a genuine non-profit where the proceeds actually go to the cause – or at least 90%+ directly to it,” he says.

“Every dollar raised will be documented and shown publicly for full transparency where it’s going, who it’s going to, and proof of the donations.”

“At the end of the day, it’s just about creating a good night for people while hopefully making a positive impact too.”

Were Danny and Adrian really MAFS supervillains?

It depends on your take on their time on the show, but while both Danny and Adrian received some flack for story arcs, do we really think they’re supervillains?

Adrian definitely got some pushback for his reaction to his match, Awhina Rutene, having a child, but arguably he was also given a pretty good redemption arc. Paul was probably a more obvious super villain on last year’s season of show, given that a lot of people found his behaviour manipulative.

And despite Danny’s final appearances on MAFS leaving a bad taste in the mouth, with the ex-groom talking about being able to find a “better bird” than Bec “in Coles”, calling Stephanie a “little skank” and yelling “bring me better women!” into a camera, the Real Estate agent also had his fair share of supporters, with female contestants like Brooke or Gia being more widely hated.

But anyway, it’s a good hook, and we’re all for an event that stands to benefit charities and helps single people get off the apps! It doesn’t look like tickets are on sale just yet, but we’ll reveal more details about the event as they are released.

MasterChef Australia airs Sunday 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 10 and 10Play.
