They’re one of the newer Married at First Sight (MAFS) Australia couples, but Juliette and Joel are already in dire straits.
In last night’s episode, Juliette shared with Joel that she’d seen a video of him “playing the drums with dildos” and found it weird, stating, “I just don’t think that’s a classy act to be posting on YouTube.” Juliette then said to a producer that the video pushed her “over the edge”, adding that it was “so theatrical and performative.”
But after seeing the offending YouTube video, MAFS fans are rallying around Joel, who uses dildos to drum along to the Fountains of Wayne track ‘Stacy’s Mom’.
MAFS Fans defend Joel using dildos as drumsticks
“He’s not my type, but I’m confused as to how that gave her the ick. It’s hilarious,” said one fan in a comment that boasts over 1000 likes. “Juliette needs to get a grip,” offered another. And perhaps most soberingly, “We used to be a country that could laugh at ourselves”.
Not everyone, though, was a fan. On Reddit, one comment reads: “OK, the video is SO cringe, but why is she acting like he committed the worst crime on earth? That’s straight-up mean.” Another commenter writes, “I’d be upset if I got matched with Joel, not gonna lie. But I wouldn’t be a straight-up nasty bitch to him, it’s just cruel, and there’s no need for it.”

One rogue commenter reckons Juliette’s reaction suggests something happened off-camera that the producers aren’t letting us see. “This isn’t an ick. Something big happened between them, and it’s angered her so much that she isn’t bothering to play nice on camera. If it were an ick, she would play nice on camera. It’s what people do. Something huge happened. She hates him.”
So, there’s a lot to consider. But perhaps the real question is, where on earth did Joel get all of those dildos?
Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2026 airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm this week on Channel 9 and 9Now.
