MAFS’ Filip reportedly wants Karl Stefanovic’s job

Well, this was unexpected! Word has it that Married at First Sight (MAFS) alumnus Filip Gregov apparently has his sights on becoming a breakfast host for Channel 9.

According to New Idea, the 39-year-old groom has been hustling for reporting roles, with a source telling the publication that “Filip has made it very clear he wants a future in television… he’s been speaking to the right people at Nine and asking for an opportunity in breakfast TV.”

It’s possible that the YouTuber could even have his sights set on Karl Stefanovic’a crown, with rumours swirling that the long-running Today host could be done with the show by the end of the year.

“Filip knows this could be his moment,” reckons one insider who spoke to New Idea. “Being at the right place at the right time could change everything.”

Stella expresses her enthusiasm for the idea

Stella Mickunaite, Filip’s MAFS bride and now fiancée, seems to be supporting Filip’s ambitions, with the 33-year-old commenting, “he would be amazing. I say yes!!!!!!” On an Instagram post about Filip Gregov’s interest in the role.

Currently, Filip hosts his own YouTube channel, where he posts self-improvement content geared towards men. The Melbourne-based groom also offers private “mindset“ and “physique“ coaching.

As Karl Stefanovic is rumoured to leave Today, a front-runner for his replacement is Matt Shirvington, the co-host of Sunrise. However, getting Matt looks to be a long shot, as the host is reportedly happy with his current role.

Other potential heirs to the Today throne include David Campbell, James Bracey, Clint Stanaway, Joel Dry, David Woiwod, Tom Steinfort, and Samantha Armytage.

Another rogue name being thrown into the mix is 22-year-old Chaad Hewitt, an internet personality who boasts more than one million followers across his social media platforms.

So, it looks as though the show is open to a variety of talent, and Filip Gregov might be the wildcard that the network needs!

That being said, the show has tried to move on from Karl Stefanovic in the past when they replaced him with an all-female team led by Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight. The shake-up was completely walked back and Karl Stefanovic returned as host within the year.

Karl independently launched his own podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show, in February this year. The first episode, featuring a live interview with One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, drew 214,000 YouTube views, though a second episode with Alexander Volkanovski only attracted 14,000 views.

Reports say the broadcaster is trying to cater to a “white space” in content specifically targeted towards men. The show will cover everything from politics and sport to masculinity and fringe theories.

“I have this curious beast that lives inside my head and I’m about to unleash that beast,” Karl said about the podcast. “I am free and independent to talk to the people that I’m curious about,” he added in a promotional reel. “It’s unscripted. It’s unfiltered. Uncensored.”

Perhaps, given that Filip also creates online content for men, it makes sense for the two to do a switcheroo.
