Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2026 may be well and truly over, but the drama keeps on coming. Just recently, Bec Zacharia discovered her husband Danny Hewitt lied to her during one of the very first tasks, and it could have changed the outcome of their relationship.
During an interview with Daily Mail, Danny revealed he purposely didn’t take part in the MAFS photo ranking challenge and threw the photos out the window because he didn’t plan to put Bec first. According to the groom, Bec had warned him she would leave the experiment if he didn’t rank her as the most attractive out of all the brides.
When he did the photo ranking challenge, he placed Mel Akbay first, and Bec second.
“It was disappointing for me to see and hear to be honest,” Bec tells Chattr. “But I think situations like that reveal a lot about a person without needing to say too much.”
While the bride was obviously shocked by this hurtful lie, she didn’t get nasty. “At the end of the day, I wish him all the best in his endeavours,” Bec says.
What happened when Danny redid the photo ranking challenge?
During an interview with Daily Mail, Danny was asked why he threw the photo ranking challenge out the window. “Bec turns to me and she’s like, ‘By the way, there’s a photo ranking task coming up.’ She goes, ‘If you don’t put me first, I’m leaving the f**king experiment’,” Danny claimed.
“I was like, I’ve got two choices here. I could lie on national TV or can get out of this. I look at the bin and I’m like, they’re going in there. But then I was like, I know what production are like. They’ll get it out of the bin. [So], they went out of the window.”
Danny said based purely on physical appearance, he would rank the MAFS brides in this order: Mel, Bec, Brook Crompton, Stella Mickunaite, Alissa Fay, Julia Vogl, Stephanie Marshall, Gia Fleur, Juliette Chae Fava, Rachel Gilmore and Rebecca Zukowski.
Bec thought the original photo ranking moment was touching
In a previous interview with Chattr, Bec said that Danny throwing the photos out the window was a “beautiful moment”. However, her words now prove how much Danny had fooled her.
“It was amazing to see him not want to rank the other women, you know, purely… for the fact of the other women,” Bec said at the time.
“But not only that, you know, that he was showing his solidarity in our relationship. That was a beautiful moment for me and for him.”
Bec said she didn’t think the photo was the “turning point” in their relationship, but since they had been on rocky ground at that point, it definitely helped get them on the right path. Too bad it was all a lie.
