Food experts Jane and Shane finally had their turn in the kitchen on My Kitchen Rules (MKR) 2026 tonight and, erm, it didn’t quite go as planned.
A botched main course landed the pair at the bottom of the leaderboard, and therefore eliminated from the show.
Speaking exclusively to Chattr, mother-daughter duo Krysten and Lucy reveal what the vibe was like on the night and how the Blue Mountains couple reacted to their epic fail.
MKR’s Lucy and Krysten reveal the moment from Jane and Shane’s kitchen we didn’t see
After talking a big game all season, Jane and Shane crashed and burned at their Instant Restaurant.
As unfortunate as it must have been for the pair, Krysten and Lucy admitted that it was somewhat “satisfying” for the other teams who had felt the brunt of their criticisms all season.
“The end result was pretty satisfying,” Lucy told Chattr.
“Honestly with Jane’s background, we expected them to do so incredibly well!”

Krysten said that despite the bitter rivalries at the table, the other teams still felt “really bad” for Jane and Shane and were “shocked” by how bad it all went.
“No matter what they’ve been like at the table, being in that MKR kitchen is so hard and so stressful. You really don’t wish that on anyone, and we could just tell that they were imploding,” she said.
“Yeah, everyone was actually extremely sad for them, and like I don’t think any of us could actually look them in the face because we felt so awful for them,” Lucy added.
She went on to reveal that Jane and Shane had a moment during their Instant Restaurant where everything was going pear-shaped and the couple finally admitted that MKR is a tough gig.
“I do remember Jane and Shane kind of having a moment at their Instant Restaurant where they said something along the lines of like, ‘This is not how we want to do it. Oh no! You guys were right. This is actually really hard’, and I think that was really appreciated from the rest of us at the table because that’s all we’d be saying to them the whole time,” she recalled.
Was Jane and Shane’s main course really as bad as it appeared on TV?
The wheels really came off Jane and Shane’s Instant Restaurant when they served their main, which was master stock pigeon, chilli cucumber and shallot pancakes.
Watching as a viewer, the meal didn’t appear very appetising, so we asked the ladies if the dish was just as bad in real life.
“Yes, it was terrible,” Krysten replied.
“For someone who’s a food stylist, and presentation is everything, it looked like someone had just taken all the ingredients and just dumped them on the plate.”

She then went into further detail about the food’s shonky presentation.
“The cucumber was in big chunks, and the pigeon was sort of all over the place. Lucy had a good crack at trying to eat the pigeon but couldn’t actually pull any off the bone.”
“Yeah, I just about broke my tooth off trying to get any meat off it,” Lucy added.
Definitely not the feedback you want!
Why the other contestants enjoyed Jane and Shane’s restaurant the most?
While the night was one Jane and Shane would probably like to forget, Krysten and Lucy admitted that for the other contestants, it was the best Instant Restaurant they’d been to so far.
Not because of the food, but for the fact that Jane and Shane were in the kitchen and therefore not beefing with anyone at the table.
“It was a really fun night for all the teams. I think we all enjoyed ourselves the most,” Krysten told Chattr.
“I described Jane and Shane as being almost like energy suckers at the table and not having them at the table, I think we all had the most fun that we’d had at any Instant Restaurant.”
My Kitchen Rules airs on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
