Dave Hand reveals if Ally Lewber's 'unhinged' Perfect Match behaviour was an act

Ally Lewber energetic presence on Netflix’s Perfect Match has made quite the impression on viewers, with many taking to social media to question why they’d never seen this side of her on her original show Vanderpump Rules, which she was a recurring cast member on for two seasons.

“Is Ally doing it on purpose or is that behaviour real?” One person on Reddit asked, while another called the way she was acting ‘unhinged’ and a third said her presence was “such a 180 from her behaviour on VPR“. Some even went as far as to accuse Ally of putting on an act for the camera in a move to get more screen time.

However, according to Australia’s own Married at First Sight (MAFS) groom and Ally’s house mate, Dave Hand, she was every bit as enthusiastic around the Perfect Match villa when the cameras weren’t rolling as she appeared to be on screen.

“I love Ally,” Dave told Chattr in an exclusive interview. “We used to wake up in the morning, before the cameras were out, and she’d be prancing around the kitchen and singing and spinning around.

“I love how she’s herself, she’s just unapologetically herself. And to have that in a villa when you’re in Mexico having fun, it’s so refreshing.”

Dave added that the cast got plenty of time to hang out when they weren’t being filmed, and stressed that Ally’s behaviour didn’t change once the cameras showed up.

“We’d wake up at like seven am, have some breakfast, hang around the pool. [At] 11 o’clock, they’d put the microphones on, and that’s it. They go, do your thing for the day. There was never a push. There was never anything. Never words [from producers] to be like, go and do this or say this. It was none of that. You didn’t even see the producers at all.”

Why didn’t Dave pursue Ally more on Perfect Match?

So far, the first five episodes of Perfect Match have been released, and while David pursued Ally as soon as he entered the villa — and even made out with her within the first few hours — he appeared to step back from actively chasing her in episode five.

In our interview, Dave explained that he didn’t want to cut Jimmy Presnell’s grass by going after Ally, adding that he wasn’t interested in being caught up in a love triangle.

“Jimmy was obviously matched with Ally, and me and Jimmy got along as well, in the background, we got along, and I wanted to respect his journey, and I didn’t want to chop that off from him. So that’s why I gave [up] that first day. I was like, I don’t want to mess that up,” he explained.

“Ally was flip-flopping between Jimmy and me… and I’m like, ‘What if I pick her and she says no and I’ve wasted [an opportunity with someone] else’, it was such an unknown. It was never 100%, me and Ally. It was more of a just, could it happen?”

Dave added that while he was initially attracted to Ally, he formed a different type of bond with Mackenzie Bellows, who he picked to match with on the first night.

“It was also Mackenzie’s birthday that day, and I didn’t want her to go home, and I wanted to get to know her as well. I’m like, she just got shafted by Chris. I wanted to give Mackenzie a chance, because I wanted to come out of her shell, and I’m like, this makes you know, it seems like a good option.

“I said she’s a safe place for me [on the show]. She was nice. She was attentive. She made an effort with me, and I knew that, yes, I could have matched with anyone [that first night] — really I could have — but I wanted to help Mackenzie come out of her shell. I could see she was reserved person. And what you see is what you get with Ally, and what you see what you get is with Nat [Cruz]. But with Mackenzie, I could see her reserved, and I wanted that to come out.”

Viewers saw Mackenzie walk away from her one-on-one date with Dave saying it was awkward and questioning if they had a spark, and Dave echoed her sentiments telling Chattr that the date made it clear there wasn’t a romantic connection between them.

“I learned very quickly, I think, on the first date, that we didn’t really vibe. In between matching, we went on a date that day, and I learned we weren’t vibing, it was clear to see,” he explained.

“Me and her are really close too, she thanked me yesterday. She’s like, ‘Thank you so much, you really made my time in the house so much more fun and for keeping me there longer’. She’s so so lovely and so nice.”
