More details have emerged following the tragic death of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber.
According to PEOPLE, Presley died at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California, on September 20, with authorities now investigating his death as a suspected overdose.
Dispatch recordings obtained by the publication reveal emergency services were called to the facility at 9:35am local time following reports of a cardiac arrest. A separate dispatch reportedly indicated first responders were attending an overdose at the address.
The Santa Monica Police Department later confirmed officers found Presley deceased when they arrived at the rehab facility.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, police said detectives are treating the death as a suspected overdose.
“At this time, there is no indication of foul play,” the statement read. “The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The investigation remains ongoing.”
What was Presley Gerber’s cause of death?
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner also confirmed it is still in the early stages of its investigation.
An autopsy was completed on Monday; however, the cause and manner of Presley’s death have been deferred while further testing is carried out.
According to the Medical Examiner, additional studies have been requested before an official determination can be made, though officials have not disclosed what those tests involve. Deferred cases can often take several months to be finalised.
The department also confirmed Presley was pronounced dead at 9:45am on September 20 by responding paramedics.
Family asks for privacy
A representative for the Gerber family told PEOPLE they are requesting privacy as they grieve.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
Before his death, Presley had spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, including discussing his experiences in interviews and on social media.
The investigation into his death remains ongoing, with an official cause of death yet to be determined.
