The Celebrity Traitors star James Blunt has revealed that Romesh Ranganathan made a surprise donation to his chosen charity after voting him out of the BBC show’s finale.
The singer dismissed rumours of a feud between the two, insisting that their friendship remains intact despite the dramatic elimination that cost him a share of the £83,000 charity prize.
What did Romesh do after betraying James?
During a November 3 interview with Hits Radio, James confirmed that Romesh had donated to Blue Marine Foundation, the marine conservation charity he had hoped to support through the competition.
When asked whether Romesh had contributed some of his winnings to the organisation, James confirmed: “He has done.”
The ‘You’re Beautiful’ singer admitted he had initially intended to keep the gesture private until he spoke with Romesh about it.
“I was going to save that,” James explained, before confirming the donation.
However, he did not reveal how much Romesh had contributed.
The revelation put speculation about a possible falling-out between the pair into perspective.
“Romesh is a very very sweet human being, and I promise he and I get on very very well,” James said.
Romesh had already addressed the rumours during the November 2 episode of BBC’s The One Show, where he appeared alongside fellow winner Sebastian ‘Bash’ Croft.
The comedian insisted that he and James remained friends, although he admitted feeling guilty about how their time in the castle ended.
Why did Romesh vote James out of Celebrity Traitors?
The unexpected donation follows a tense conclusion to The Celebrity Traitors on October 30, when James narrowly missed out on a share of the charity prize.
Romesh initially suspected James of being a Traitor. However, Bash convinced him to eliminate King Kenny instead, removing the game’s final Traitor.
With three Faithfuls remaining, Romesh and Bash voted to end the game. James chose another banishment after Romesh’s earlier accusation left him uncertain about whom to trust.
The decision backfired. Romesh and Bash voted James out, leaving the pair to split the £83,000 charity prize.
Romesh’s £41,500 share went to the Refugee Council, while Bash supported Choose Love, which helps refugees and displaced people.
James subsequently said he was happy that the Faithfuls had secured the victory, despite missing out himself.
