Big Brother UK star Omar El Mayer has admitted being “a bit nasty” towards Rhianna Collins during their relationship, following his surprise eviction on November 4.
Appearing on Big Brother: The Group Chat, Omar acknowledged problems with his behaviour and said he had learned to listen more after their disagreements sparked widespread criticism.
Co-host Kate Lawler confronted him about their relationship, telling Omar that some of their interactions had been “really uncomfortable for us to watch.”
What did Omar admit about his behaviour towards Rhianna?
Omar acknowledged that his relationship with Rhianna had its highs and lows. He also admitted that some of his behaviour had been “a bit nasty,” although he insisted that hurting her was never his intention.
He attributed several of their arguments to miscommunication, explaining that he sometimes struggled to express what he meant.
Omar said he and Rhianna often talked through their arguments and felt they had sorted out some of their issues before leaving the house.
When Kate asked what he had learned from the experience, Omar said he needed to become more understanding and consider other people’s perspectives.
“I have definitely learnt I should listen more,” he said.
His comments follow weeks of controversy surrounding their relationship on Big Brother UK.
During the October 19 episode, several heated exchanges left Rhianna in tears. Producers subsequently issued Omar a warning about his language and behaviour.
Omar and Rhianna’s interactions across several episodes prompted 22,499 complaints to Ofcom. Domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid also raised concerns about the relationship dynamics shown on the programme.
Has Rhianna changed her mind about Omar?
Rhianna has questioned their relationship since leaving the house on October 30.
During a post-eviction TikTok livestream, she explained that watching their arguments back had changed how she viewed certain interactions.
“When I watched it back, even me I was like, ‘why am I apologising right now?'” she said.
Rhianna then suggested that she would not accept some of the ways Omar had spoken to her again. However, she acknowledged that she still had feelings for him and needed to prioritise her own well-being.
Rhianna fuelled further speculation with another TikTok post on November 3.
The video featured her lip-syncing to Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Nobody’s Son’, alongside a message suggesting that watching an episode had helped her regain her self-worth.
Despite the speculation surrounding the post, Rhianna has not explicitly confirmed that their relationship is over.
Both contestants are now outside the house ahead of Big Brother: The Reunion on November 6, when their relationship could come up again.
Big Brother UK concludes on ITV2 and ITVX on November 5.
