Australia’s first-ever lead for The Golden Bachelor has been revealed, and it’s silver-fox Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden.

Described as a “strong, protective man with deep love for family and adventure”, Bear currently resides in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

“It’s quite surreal getting to be Australia’s first Golden Bachelor,” Bear said. “It’s an incredible privilege that 20 remarkable women are willing to come on this journey with me, for all of us to have the courage to open our hearts and take the chance to fall in love again.”

Here’s everything we know about Australia’s Golden Bachelor Bear.

Has Australia’s Golden Bachelor Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden been married?

Yes, Bear has been married, and his backstory is heartbreaking. Bear was married to Audrey Myrden, who was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive malignant brain tumour in 2009.

She unfortunately passed away in 2011, and Bear gave a final update about his condition in a Facebook group dedicated to her recovery in November of that year.

“She is not very good and wasn’t expected to last this past weekend. It could be a matter of days, even hours. It is clear that the tumour has come back, and they have exhausted all treatment options. Now it is just a case of keeping her comfortable.”

Bear thanked the group for their “thoughts and prayers”.

Does Barry have kids?

He does. Bear has three sons with his late wife: Charlie, Jack, and Declan, whose ages range between 17 and 21.

A source told Daily Mail Australia that his sons aren’t fans of the women Bear’s been dating recently.

“Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong of girls that are just too young and hot for him,” the friend said.

“We were always saying that he needs to put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.”

What does Bear do for work?

Bear’s LinkedIn profile has him listed as an Infrastructure Engineer at Data Centre Management for Woolworths Group.

Previous to that he worked as a Vessel Traffic Services Officers for Port Authority of NSW, and his Facebook page shows that he’s a keen sailor.

Where is Golden Bachelor’s Bear Myrden from?

According to NetworkCanada, Bear is Canadian and moved to Australia with his late wife in 1998. He’s based in Manly on the Northern Beaches.

The Golden Bachelor Australia will air on Channel 9 in 2025.
