From serving up authentic Italian flavours to unexpectedly finding themselves in the middle of one of My Kitchen Rules’ (MKR) most talked-about moments, Tiffany and Giancarlo have quickly become one of the standout couples of the season.
The Victorian pair have been together for almost two decades and say they’re happiest doing life on their own terms — whether that’s in the kitchen, in business or travelling the world together.
Here’s everything we know about the MKR couple.
Other MKR teams already see them as serious competition
It isn’t just viewers who have their eyes on Tiffany and Giancarlo — their fellow contestants quickly identified the pair as one of the teams to beat.
Speaking to 7News.com.au, contestant Lucy admitted she suspected the Victorian couple were downplaying just how talented they really are in the kitchen.
“I just thought they were, like, hiding some crazy cooking talent,” Lucy said.
While Lucy was wary of Tiffany and Giancarlo, fellow contestant Krysten revealed her biggest concern was another team.
“I think as we met people and found out what they did, I was probably most worried about Jane and Shane in terms of competition because she’s a food stylist,” Krysten told the site.
“So I’m like, we’re just really in her wheelhouse.”
Even so, Tiffany and Giancarlo have already proven they’re capable of making a lasting impression, with both their cooking and dinner party conversations putting them firmly in the spotlight early in the competition.
Tiffany unexpectedly found herself at the centre of Alisha’s dramatic walk-out
While Tiffany has largely been known for her warm personality and love of Italian cooking, she also found herself at the centre of one of the season’s most talked-about moments.
During the dinner party, Tiffany and fellow contestant Jane bonded over their shared belief that travelling makes people better cooks, chatting about trips to Sicily.
The conversation later shifted to the salad course when Tiffany said she thought it needed more “acid”.
Alisha questioned whether she meant “acidity”, sparking a debate around the table.
Speaking to WHO, Alisha said she felt embarrassed after the other contestants backed Tiffany’s wording.
“I was happy to ask questions when I felt I didn’t know things or to be pulled up on things,” Alisha told WHO. “Little things [that were] trying to make it seem like we were really just dumb and had no idea — I can take it for a while.”
She said the moment that pushed her over the edge came when she challenged Tiffany’s wording but felt the room sided against her.
“When I pulled someone else up on something, where I’m like, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t agree that you’re putting acid in a salad’, and then for Colin to back the other contestants on that and make me feel, yet again, like an imbecile, I was like, ‘I’m done’,” she told WHO.
Alisha added that her decision to walk away wasn’t about pride, but about how she wanted her children to see her.
“I’m not here to show my kids that their mum’s on TV and is just an absolute idiot. I’m not an idiot,” she said.
They’ve been together for almost 20 years
Tiffany and Giancarlo describe themselves as a “loved-up power couple”, having spent nearly 20 years together.
Despite their long relationship, they’ve never felt the need to get married or have children, choosing instead to carve out their own path.
According to Channel Seven, Tiffany previously worked as a flight attendant before moving into corporate marketing. More recently, she stepped away from that career with Giancarlo’s support and is now a homemaker.
Giancarlo, meanwhile, describes himself as an entrepreneur. Alongside working with his family’s engineering business, he also consults for companies, has founded several tech businesses and works across the events industry.
Cooking is at the heart of their relationship
Giancarlo’s Italian heritage plays a huge role in the couple’s cooking style.
He says his signature dish is melanzane alla parmigiana (eggplant parmigiana), a recipe he grew up eating, while Tiffany rattles off a long list of favourites including spaghetti pomodoro, fresh pasta, roast chicken and oven-roasted lemon potatoes.
Although Giancarlo originally taught Tiffany how to cook Italian food, she jokes that the student has now become the master.
When it comes to competing, both agree they’re strongest when they work together.
Tiffany says they’re “passionate, supportive and competitive in all the right ways”, while Giancarlo says they constantly push each other to improve while trusting each other’s strengths.
