  • The pair have contrasting cooking styles, and Angus hopes to use the $100,000 prize to open an Adelaide restaurant.

My Kitchen Rules (MKR) 2026 team Angus and Simon are best mates from South Australia who are bringing two very different cooking styles — and a whole lot of morbid humour — to the competition.

Angus, 31, and Simon, 36, have been friends for more than a decade, having met while working in Adelaide’s hospitality scene. Their shared sense of humour has remained a big part of their friendship.

Angus is a fifth-generation funeral director, which has naturally given the pair plenty of material to work with. “I grew up around it. My grandfather’s grandfather began the business I work at [Alfred James Funeral Homes], which is over 100 years old. I’m a fifth-generation funeral director. All my grandfather ever talked about was funerals,” he told Woman’s Day.

Their Instant Restaurant is fittingly called Last Orders, while Angus has joked that the only thing they plan on “burying” is their competition. So, yes, expect the funeral puns to come thick and fast.

However, their approach to food is considerably more serious. Angus is the chaotic one in the kitchen, working quickly and using just about every utensil he can get his hands on. Simon is basically his opposite: calm, precise and far more likely to follow a recipe step-by-step.

Will Simon be caught in a romance with Deanne on My Kitchen Rules?

Speaking to New Idea, Simon said he tried to win Deanne over. “Deanne caught my eye, and I was sort of trying to put a bit of the dingo magic to try to win her over, and unfortunately I’m not sure that I got across the line there, but we live in hope,” he said.

“No rock unturned or whatever it is. You’ve got to put your best foot forward!”

However, Deanne told Chattr that she had no romantic interest in Simon. “Oh God, no!” she said when asked if his crush was mutual. “I guess we did need some sympathy votes. So having some of the boys like us at the table wasn’t a bad thing.”

The duo had another favourite in the competition: they admitted they liked Colin as a MKR judge more than Manu. Oop!

“I think the judges pulled out every death pun there is. They pretty much went through everything, all the way to the final nail in the coffin,” Angus told Woman’s Day, admitting his favourite judge “started as Manu, but finished as Colin”.

“I really liked Colin’s sense of humour,” he said.

Who are Simon and Angus on My Kitchen Rules?

They describe themselves as “fire and ice”, which sounds extremely promising for some MKR kitchen chaos. Angus prefers a fast-paced, instinctive approach, while Simon likes a little more structure and attention to detail. Whether those opposing methods will complement each other under pressure remains to be seen.

Their signature dishes are just as different. Angus loves making his grandmother’s mini sausage rolls, a recipe he cherishes because of the sweet memories attached to it, while Simon’s go-to dish is Hainanese chicken rice.

The pair have described their dynamic as “fun and fiery”, admitting they love mucking around until something starts going wrong — at which point competitive mode kicks in.

And Angus already has plans if they manage to take home the $100,000 prize, revealing he’d love to open a small Adelaide restaurant focused on platforming quality produce. A man with a plan!
