Australian actor Simmone Jade Mackinnon’s sister, Kym Mackinnon, has died, police have confirmed, after a public search was launched for her.
The McLeod’s Daughters star issued an emotional plea on Instagram on Monday, sharing a photo of her sister and asking the public for help locating her.
Kym, 51, had last been seen on Guanaba Road at Tamborine Mountain, south of Brisbane.
“Have you seen my sister?” Mackinnon wrote.
“Please share this post ESPECIALLY if you are in Queensland.”
Kym’s daughter also shared a heartfelt appeal online, posting a throwback family photo and urging anyone who had seen or spoken to her mother in the previous two weeks to come forward with any information.
Queensland Police confirmed on Monday that officers were investigating a missing person report involving a woman in Tamborine Mountain.
However, the search took a tragic turn the following day when police announced a woman had been found dead in the area. Her death was not being treated as suspicious.
“Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the non-suspicious death of a woman at Tamborine Mountain,” a police spokesperson said.
“There is no further information at this time.”
Mackinnon is perhaps best known for her role as Stevie Hall in McLeod’s Daughters, joining the hit Australian drama in its third season. The series ran for nine years and picked up eight Logie Awards during its run.
The Mount Isa-born actor also appeared as Allie Reese on Baywatch Hawaii, where she met Jason Momoa. The pair began dating in 2004 and were engaged before splitting in 2006.
After taking several years away from the spotlight, Mackinnon made her television comeback by competing on and ultimately winning the adventure reality series The Summit.
