What happens to the Love Is Blind cast not picked to be filmed? One couple is telling all

Ever wondered when watching Love Is Blind, what happens to the contestants who appear in the background of episodes but never get any screen time?

Well, as it turns out: plenty of those contestants do fall in love and get engaged in the pods — they just don’t get picked for their journey to be filmed for Love Is Blind. Yikes.

This year’s Love Is Blind UK had a groundbreaking number of engagements: 14 couples actually got engaged in the pods, but producers only selected six couples to continue being filmed and followed for the main series. “When there are more engagements than we can physically follow, we have to make difficult editorial choices,” executive producer Nazleen Karim told The Mirror.

So what happened to the eight couples formed in the pods whose love stories were left on the cutting room floor? One couple is sharing their story.

In a joint Instagram post (okay, that’s promising), Sammy Harper and Jonathan Harrold told their followers all about their ‘unhinged’ experience on the Netflix dating show.

“In August 2025, we spent two weeks dating through a wall on Love Is Blind. On 6th September, we got engaged. And that was the start of our slightly unhinged love story…” the post began.

After getting engaged in the pods, the twosome were sent home — they were not chosen to get their big TV moment when they met face-to-face before going on a honeymoon.

Instead, they each went home alone and had to wait two days to get a text from production passing on each other’s mobile number. “48 HOURS AFTER GETTING ENGAGED… we landed home to these texts. Our Love Is Blind journey was over. Our actual relationship? Well… that was entirely up to us.”

Jon was sent this simple message from production: “Thanks so much for filming with us, you have been an absolute joy, with the permission of Sammy, she would love that I share her number with you.” And that’s all, folks. Brutal!

It wasn’t until September 2025 that the two actually saw each other in person — and they decided to immediately book a trip to Spain. “Finally met face to face…and on 30 minutes sleep, decided booking Málaga immediately was a great idea. First holiday… Time to figure out if we actually liked each other.”

The next month, they both had to resume their daily lives and day jobs, but at the same time still “living opposite sides of the country AND secretly engaged unable to tell anyone” before introducing each other to their respective families in November. “Probably time to introduce the person we’d already agreed to MARRY to our families,” they joked.

The couple has since gone from strength to strength. In 2026, they continued their long-distance relationship before buying a dog together in February. “Our Love Is Blind puppy. Because apparently getting engaged after two weeks wasn’t enough commitment,” they wrote.

“This started to feel like real life. Somewhere along the way, we stopped feeling like two people who met on Love Is Blind. Suddenly it was less ‘experiment’ and more ‘whose turn is it to pick up the dog shit?’.”

In April, the couple found out that Sammy was pregnant, but they sadly lost the baby to a silent miscarriage in June. “Honestly, we really struggled. Grieving whilst still living opposite sides of the country was one of the hardest things we’ve had to face together. We ended the month in Barcelona on a trip we’d planned all year. We tried to enjoy it. But truthfully, we were just trying to find our feet again,” they wrote.

Since then, the couple is still going strong. “AND HERE WE ARE… Almost one whole year later, we finally get to talk about us. We didn’t get picked to continue on Love Is Blind. At the time, that felt like the end of our story. Turns out, it was the beginning of the best bit. No cameras. No experiment. No guarantees. We just kept choosing each other. And now you’re finally in on the secret,” they concluded.

Out of a potential 14 couples, eight were chosen this season: Sophie and Taylor, Ciara and Ajay, Cuba and Ryan, Faye and Jack, Yasmin and Jordan, and Francesca and Joseph.

Sadly, the couples who didn’t make the cut simply couldn’t fit in the episodes. “We’ve never had as many as 14 engagements which is why we ended up following six couples this time as opposed to five,” series editor David Cheesman told The Mirror.

“It’s never an easy decision and we wouldn’t want to diminish the love those other couples have formed.”

This was the case for Love Is Blind US, but under rather different circumstances. For Season 10, eight couples actually got engaged in the pods, but producers chose to follow seven of them.

The eighth couple was Elissa Finley and Miguel Lopez. The difference is that they proposed and had their reveal filmed, but weren’t selected to continue through the full experiment. According to creator Chris Coelen, he told Entertainment Weekly that the couple “broke off their engagement the next day,” which explains why producers ultimately didn’t include them in the season.

Chris Coelen did reveal that a big reason for only picking a handful of couples to be filmed is how much it costs to send them on a luxury honeymoon. “We’ve never had the resources to send more than six couples to Mexico,” he said. “We just don’t have the budget.”
