This Sydney couple, who describe themselves as a “typical fiery Italian and an Aussie bogan,” are putting everything on the line to transform their dated 1960s red brick home into the coastal, Mediterranean-inspired abode of their dreams.
Lara, a wedding florist, and Peter, an electrician, are no strangers to hard work—they often put in seven-day weeks to support their family.
The couple worries that their renovation goals may be slipping out of reach due to rising interest rates and building costs – but these two are ready to fight for the Dream Home grand prize.

Lara and Peter’s 12-year marriage is full of love, laughter, and plenty of good-natured bickering. Lara jokes that her main form of communication is yelling, but it’s clear this “loved-up pair” are truly best mates.
The couple have two children together, 10-year-old Leo and 7-year-old Mia, and have sacrificed precious family time in order to work long hours and keep their heads above water financially.

The pair’s Belrose house is tired, dull and dated, but they envision transforming it into a bright, airy coastal haven with a Mediterranean twist. The couple adores light timbers, lush greenery, and crisp white walls.
Their top renovation priority is creating an open-plan entertaining space centred around a large kitchen—perfect for big, boisterous family gatherings.
While Lara, with her design background, will no doubt have plenty of ideas for their Dream Home renovation, Peter is equally passionate about the project and his electrical expertise is sure to come in handy!
