Benedict Cumberbatch Related To Sherlock Holmes Author

Sherlock Holmes is an extremely well-known, fictitious character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the 1890s.The character, consulting detective, is loved for how he uses his logic  to get himself out of trouble.

However, like many stories written decades ago, Sherlock Holmes found himself being rebooted through the Emmy award winning television series called Sherlock.

With Benedict Cumberbatch starring as the violin-playing detective Holmes, the reboot has proved exceedingly popular. Recent work by Ancestry.com, however, has revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch is in fact distantly related to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Who would’ve thought that Doyle would write a fantastic series about a detective, and that a distantly related cousin 16 times removed would be starring in the reboot centuries later?

Jennifer Utley, a family historian at Ancestry.com had this to say about the remarkable coincidence:

“How rare that an actor in a major series has the chance to play a character created by a relative, especially one as iconic as Sherlock Holmes.”

The timing couldn’t be better for fans of Sherlock.  The highly anticipated fourth season began on January 2, streaming on Stan. at the same time as the UK. Fans couldn’t be more excited to see their favourite socially inept detective figure his way through cases, with this new info just the cherry on top of the cake!

BRB, got to go watch new Sherlock. Source
