Sydney has attracted some pretty big names to its shores this year, but perhaps none bigger (or more fascinating) than Shia LaBeouf. Yes -the ‘just do it’ man himself is making a special appearance at Bingefest, held at the Sydney Opera House 17-18 December 2016.
Whether you remember him from Even Stevens, Transformers or as the subject of Rob Cantor’s musical masterpiece (below), LaBeouf is equal parts wonderful and bewildering. These days LaBeouf is more into performance art however, and that’s exactly what has attracted him and his buddies to Bingefest.
Bingefest is a two day festival focusing on “television, podcasts, gaming and the internet at large create an artistic frame through which we view the world” . With other big names like Dan Harmon (Rick & Morty), Julie Snyder (Serial) and comedian Dan Ilic in attendance, the festival is sure to go off.
LaBeouf will be touring with his pals, London-based artist Luke Turner and Finnish artist Nastja Säde Rönkko. The trio have been working together since 2014, when LaBeouf appeared on the red carpet with a paper bag on his head saying ‘I am not famous anymore’.
Other acts at Bingefest include a Buffy Binge-a-thon, an Internet Cat Video Festival that is being co-run with the RSPCA, and a 24hr Streetfighter gaming marathon. Basically it’s every millennial’s ideal weekend.
Tickets for this event go on sale October 14. Luckily for you however Shia LaBeouf’s event is FREE. It’s not one for the early-risers though; Saturday’s performance runs midnight – 6am, and Sunday’s runs 10pm – 6am. Head on over to the Bingefest website to learn more.
Happy bingeing!
