When will we get season three of ‘Outlander’?

Season two of Outlander wrapped up in July 2016. Ever since, we’ve been on edge to find out what happens next with Claire and Jamie Fraser.

But finally, we have something to tide us over.

Deadline has reported that season three of Outlander will be released this September.

“While ‘Droughtlander’ will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety. The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible,” said President of Programming at Starz; Carmi Zlotnik.

The hit television show is based upon a book series by Diana Galbaldon. The third season will be based off the novel Voyager, and picks up after Claire re-enters the year 1948.

Production on the show will begin in March, travelling from its usual home of Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa.

The series has received high praise, which has earned Outlander a fourth season. It takes a different look at female sexuality, with Claire often being the one who initiates any intimate moments, right from the very beginning.

“She was the one asking for it, she was the one directing him what to do. We’re so used to seeing women being objectified, as objects of desire of men, but it’s rare when you see a woman owning her sexuality, directing it, orchestrating the sequence of events,” said Caitriona Balfe, the woman behind Claire.

While there is still no word on whether the September release date will apply to Australia, the announcement is a light at the end of the tunnel for fans of the acclaimed sci-fi/romance series.
