Astronaut Scott Kelly has very recently planted his feet back on Earth after almost an entire year orbiting our planet in the International Space Station.
Kelly and his colleague Mikhail Korniyenko, departed Earth on March 27th 2015 from Kazakstan and returned safely once again on March 1st 2016. Kelly and Korniyenko were working to gather data to examine how the human body reacts to being in space for such an extended period of time. This research will be used in upcoming space expeditions, to the moon and even possibly towards Mars.
Whilst they were working in the space station that orbits at almost 400km above the Earth, Kelly captured many jaw-dropping images of the Earth which he shared with over a million people through his twitter account. These images portrayed our planet from a perspective that has not often been seen before. Kelly’s messages that came with many of the images, promoted a great appreciation for the natural world and a need to conserve the natural treasures we may take for granted.
Here is the world as you’ve never seen it before.
