Winter Delayed Once More for Game of Thrones Fans

Winter is not coming this year for Game of Thrones fans, G.R.R.M has announced in a blog post.

The long awaited sixth book in the ​A Song of Fire and Ice saga, called ​Winds of Winter, will remain out of the grasp of readers’ hands for another long year – but hey, what’s another year when we’ve already been waiting SEVEN? Let’s not despair too much just yet, because Martin has announced the release of a new book. It is entitled ​Fire and Blood and will detail the history of House Targaryen. This means that ​Game of Thrones ​fans will at least have ​something to nerd out over this year. (Please give us ​anything – this is already so much worse than Droughtlander.)

The book will be 640 pages ​long​ and filled with short stories about Targaryens. It is the first of two volumes planned on the history of Westeros. These volumes may or may not be being turned into television shows. Apparently Martin isn’t allowed to confirm this as of yet. Martin has also ​stressed​ that ​Fire and Blood is not a novel, but more of an ‘imaginary history’. Repeat: this is ​not a novel. However, in a blog post he stated the book will cover stories of “Targaryen kings from Aegon I (the Conquerer) to the regency of Aegon III (the Dragonbane), along with their wives, wars, siblings, children, friends, rivals, laws, travels, and sundry other matters.”

Parts of the book have been published before, so the book won’t feature entirely new information, though Martin has promised that there will be an abundance of history within the book. He also promised ​lots of dragons. Oh and the author has said there will be illustrations (what is a history book without illustrations though?). So, it’s not ​Winds of Winter. But it’s Westeros – which is better than nothing. Thanks G.R.R.M for giving us, well, something (even if it’s not ​Winds of Winter).

Fire and Blood will be released in November via HarperCollins. No one is really sure when ​Winds of Winter will be out, but if you’re desperate, an impatient computer programmer used artificial intelligence software to write the first five chapters. You’re welcome.
