Kat Stewart and Peter Helliar donned matching fuchsia outfits at the 2017 Logie Awards to mock Amber Sherlock’s ‘jacketgate’ meltdown from January this year.
The incident involved Amber Sherlock’s off-air chastisement of her fellow anchor, Julie Snook, for wearing a similar white shirt to Sherlock. Sherlock insisted her colleague wear a jacket on air. The footage was leaked to Mumbrella.
Prior to presenting the 2017 Logie for Most Outstanding Comedy to Please Like Me, Stewart and Helliar performed a comical skit in response to the viral video. They cleverly mimicked the off-air exchange between the two channel nine news readers.
“I asked you specifically not to wear fuchsia”, wailed a frustrated Peter Helliar on the Logie stage. He and Stewart eventually compromised, with the Offspring star re-entering the stage wearing a striped poncho over her gown.
Sherlock was seen smiling in the Logies audience as the hilarious skit unfolded, obviously now able to laugh about the incident. Helliar seems to agree; he later posted this selfie of the two, describing the news anchor as “such a great sport” on his twitter account.
Ironically, Sherlock wore a white Jason Grech ballgown for the red carpet event. She revealed to Fairfax Media that she hoped the gown would show her sense of humour regarding the incident. Sherlock suffered a severe social media backlash following the leaked footage, not unlike Emma Watson‘s recent social media battle.
When questioned by the media, Sherlock stated the white dress was “not quite” a response to the issue.
