Stan has released a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming series Joe vs Carole. All episodes will be available from Friday, March 4 exclusively on Stan.

The series is a scripted adaptation of the 2020 Wondery podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, a series about big cat conservationists such as Carole Baskin and collectors such as Joe Exotic, whom Baskin accuses of abusing and exploiting wild animals.

Baskin and Exotic’s story was then turned into an American true-crime documentary series, Tiger King. It details the life of former zookeeper and convicted felon Joe Exotic.

It was released on Netflix in March of 2020 and was watched by 34.3 million people over its first ten days of release, partly due to its release during the first month of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world was facing the start of lockdowns and self-isolation.

The show gained a cult following and inspired memes and TikTok videos for months after its release. The second and third seasons of the show, however, received mostly negative reviews from fans and critics, and even ended in a lawsuit involving Baskin and her husband over some footage that was used.

Behind the Scenes of Joe vs Carole is the trailer to the series containing interviews from two executive producers of the show, as well as the actors of the three main characters, Kate McKinnon, John Cameron Mitchell, and Kyle MacLachlan.

Executive producer and writer of the show Alex Katsnelson explained McKinnon’s involvement in the show, and how she has been part of the project since the beginning.

Kate went on to explain “I listened to the Wondery podcast on Joe Exotic and thought ‘[Carole is] a kooky lady, she’d be fun to play. As I began to do more research, I began to really admire her, she is a kickass businesswoman, activist, and survivor.”

“Joe and Carole are two larger-than-life people, and we wanted to revel in the fun of that, then also show you what’s underneath,” McKinnon said.

“It was a challenging show for all of the actors, it asked a lot of them. John gave a performance that was breathtaking” executive producer and showrunner, Etan Frankel said of McKinnon’s co-star, Mitchell.
