Supanova 2021 has released an important announcement regarding the Perth event.

In a statement today, the organisers wrote:

“As you may be aware, the Western Australian government has introduced new border entry requirements for anyone traveling from New South Wales, which includes COVID-19 testing within 48 hours of arrival, and mandatory self-quarantine until a negative result is received.

Unfortunately, given the location of many of our crew, exhibitors and stars, and the short turnaround between shows, this means that we will not physically be able to deliver next weekend’s event. We have therefore made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming Perth convention.

This is heartbreaking for both us, our exhibitors, artisans and our Supa-Stars, who were so excited to meet all their West Coast Supa-Fans. These guests have all confirmed their attendance as long as our new dates don’t conflict with any prior commitments they may have made, so we hope to see them back as soon as possible.

At this stage, new dates are still being finalised with our venue partner, the PCEC. We’ll make an announcement as soon as these details are locked in. For everyone who has already purchased Admission Tickets and/or Tokens, we’ve requested Moshtix refund everyone in full with the process beginning tomorrow morning.

We’re beyond disappointed to be missing you next weekend, Perth fans, especially with this news coming so close to show, but it is our hope that this increased preparation time will allow us to put on an even bigger and better Supanova event.”

The announcement comes after the Sydney leg of the 2020 Supanova convention had to be canceled due to the pandemic as well.

Supanova Comic Con & Gaming began in Sydney in 2002 as a completely home-grown Australian production showcasing sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, anime, manga, games, cosplay and much more. Supanova takes place in six cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and the Gold Coast), and is Australia’s leading and largest event of its kind.
