New data reveals that Back With the Ex is Australia’s most complained about reality TV show, with one in every six posts shared about the show being negative.

With only 2 per cent of people actually admitting they watch reality TV, it is safe to say it is a guilty pleasure of many. However, the drama and controversy can spark negative comments.

The researchers at Australian discounts platform Wethrift, have looked at the top 10 Australian reality shows on our screens and found out which ones are talked about most negatively.

From articles to social media posts, Wethrift has determined the social sentiment of each show to reveal the most loved, hated and tolerated shows.

Back With the Ex

Negative posts: one in every six

Going by its name, it’s no wonder this show sparks controversial viewer opinions, as the show showcases a series of emotional reunions, as four singles reconnect with their exes and attempt to reignite their romantic pasts.

Whilst the show tends to make the headlines, here not all publicity is good publicity. For example, “Back with the Ex is definitely Netflix’s worst original show”. Enough said.

Married At First Sight Australia

Negative posts: Almost one in six

Married At First Sight Australia is another explosive series people can’t help but talk about, with juicy fallouts, betrayals, and blossomed romances- or shall we say marriages.

Surprisingly, most chat about the Australia show has been fairly positive. However, there are a few culprits in the show who will be causing those judgmental tweets on social media- but we don’t want to name names.

Making it Australia

Negative posts: Almost one in 6

Bringing together the country’s most talented Makers to showcase their artistic genius, headlines about the show including, “Sorry, Ten, Making It Australia isn’t going to make it” isn’t helping the show’s street cred as viewing numbers are also dropping dramatically.

The Bachelorette Australia

Negative posts: Over one in 10

Whilst there is a fairly positive sentiment towards the Bachelorette Australia, it seems not many people are talking about it at all, as it sinks to its lowest ratings yet attracting just 249,000 viewers.

It looks like the show needs a kick of drama to get people talking again, but fortunately, comments are positive for now.

Negative posts: One in 10

The Bachelor follows a group of 25 women battling for the chance to win the heart of the Australian bachelor. When the group gets smaller, tensions and emotions start to run high.

Previous reports have claimed the show has a diversity problem, highlighting magazines publishing stories on the show featuring only 16 non-white cover stars across 148 covers in two years.

The Voice Australia

Negative posts: Almost one in ten

The second most positive show on the Aussie box is The Voice, the country’s most popular singing competition showcasing some majorly talented performers.

As viewers watch one deserving contestant win $100K and a record deal, last season’s being Bella Taylor Smith, fans have nothing but support for the powerhouse singer.

Next month’s lineup has been confirmed, with current coaches Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, and Rita Ora returning to the new season on Channel 7 and 7plus in 2022.

Bondi Rescue

Negative posts: three in 50

Bondi Rescue’s antics are always sparking the headlines, as the lifeguards on Bondi are constantly saving lives, whilst creating dramatic TV.

With multiple Bondi headlines earlier this year, it seems people aren’t talking so much about the programme anymore. Let’s hope it’s down to fewer people needing to be saved!

My Kitchen Rules

Negative posts: three in 50

On the show, contestants compete amongst one another as they prepare a three-course meal designed to impress their fellow contestants and esteemed judges.

Whilst there hasn’t been much of positive nor negative opinion around it, rumours are that Nigella Lawson and axed MasterChef judge George Calombaris are the hot favourites to host the new season, which may spark some gossip.

MasterChef Australia

Negative posts: one in every 10

Inspired by the original British MasterChef, this prime time Channel 10 reality tv show has also experienced a decline in viewer figures along with The Bachelor, falling by 40 per cent.

Whilst Celebrity Masterchef is in finals week, let’s hope the non-celeb version can get viewers to pick up when (or if) it returns for the 10th season.

One of the most talked-about reality tv shows on ITV, Love Island Australia has returned to our screens for a third season of sun, sea and romance. Whilst drama and arguments unfold on the show, it is generally the most positively talked about the Aussie reality show.

However Season 3 could change that, so keep your eyes peeled…
