Warning: minor spoilers for Game of Thrones season 7.
Ed Sheeran’s appearance on the latest season of Game of Thrones was met some pretty mixed reactions. While some enjoyed the cameo (which even involved a little singing), many fans described it as painful and cringe-worthy. Much to the relief of many Game of Thrones fans, Ed Sheeran has confirmed he won’t be appearing in the television series a second time.
“No one wants to see me come back,” the singer said in an interview with MTV news.
In the interview Sheeran said that his character is mostly likely dead anyway.
“I doubt I’m going to survive for that long, to be honest, when there are dragons in the world,” he said.
The singer makes a pretty good point, considering a fair amount of the Lannister army became toast in episode four.
“I’m cool with it, though,” Sheeran said. “I enjoyed it.”
Ed Sheeran isn’t the first famous music artist to have appeared in the television series. Members of Coldplay, Sigur Ros, Mastodon, Snow Patrol and Of Monsters and Men have all appeared in the show. Though none have featured quite so prominently has Ed Sheeran.
The producers had tried for years to get Sheeran to appear in the show as a surprise for Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) who is a big fan of the singer. It’s no small accident that Sheeran appeared alongside Williams in the episode.
Whether you enjoyed the cameo or not, it’s hard to deny that Ed Sheeran is a pretty lucky guy to land a spot in what is undeniably one of the most awesome television shows every created.
