Brace yourselves, because new photos from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film have just been released by 20th Century Fox.
The film will be based off the award winning Assassin’s Creed series, but we will not be seeing Desmond Miles. Instead, the movie will draw inspiration from the games with a new main character, Callum Lynch. Looks like nothing is true, everything is permitted.
However, we can’t ignore the fact that Michael Fassebender (X-Men Apocalyse), who will be portraying Callum Lynch, looks the part of a 15th century Spanish assassin.
The synopsis of the film follows Callum who, after having discovered he is a descendant of a secret society called the Assassins, relives the life of his badass ancestor. His ancestor is Aguilar who’s from 15th century Spain and whose secrets are unlocked through a revolutionary technology that is able to uncover his genetic history. After gaining vital knowledge and skills like a true assassin, he is set to take on the Knights Templar organisation in modern day.
It’s almost an exact adaption of Desmond scaling the walls of Damascus as his legendary ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, but Spanish!
The film will be directed by Aussie filmmaker Justin Kurzel (Snowtown), and alongside Fassbender will be Marion Cotillard (Inception), Michael K. Williams (The Wire), and Jeremy Irons (The Borgias). The film’s historical accuracy and authenticity seems to be on the ball as Sammy Sheldon Differ, the film’s costume designer, explains:
I have much respect for the historical accuracy and vast characterization represented in each game. This has been a fantastic starting point to understand what is needed to be faithful to the artistic content and begin creating our film world. Bearing in mind this rich base, I have used our period of 15h century Spain, with its strong influences of Moorish deco, to give the Assassin’s looks a nomadic warrior personification.
With that in mind, the film looks promising for fans of Assassin’s Creed as well as history buffs. Or anyone who is interested. You can view the rest of the photos in this gallery here (via comingsoon.net)
It will hit cinemas worldwide 21st December, 2016.
