Within a 24-hour period, Tarryn Stokes was crowned the winner of The Voice Australia 2023 and her brand spanking new single Nobody shot straight to the top of the iTunes charts.

During an interview with Chattr, Tarryn revealed that one of the songwriters of Nobody is behind Christina Augileria’s 1999 hit Genie in a Bottle.

The mum of two said that she was presented with the song during the finals, and fell in love with it straight away.

“I hadn’t even gone off the stage from the semifinals and one of the ladies from Universal said, ‘Hi, we’d love to like show you some songs,'” she explained.

“I was ready to be like, ‘Look, I can change this and that’, because as a songwriter you want to have input. But I listened to it and I was like, ‘Yeah, this is awesome. This is great’.

“After that, I realised that the songwriters are well-accomplished songwriters and one of them wrote Genie in a Bottle by Christina Aguilera… And one of them is a Grammy Award-winning writer!”

Why did Tarryn Stokes choose Nobody as a single?

Tarryn is married with two kids and her happy family unit played out on The Voice Australia 2023. So, her decision to choose a breakup song for her first single appears to be a little out of left field. However, she explained that the meaning behind the song runs much deeper.

“Even though it [Nobody] is a breakup song, it actually means so much more. I’m in a happy marriage, so it’s definitely not like that.

“But there’s so many things in life that I’ve walked away from and have chosen to find my own voice and say no to people and say no to things that don’t serve me well. So I’m really relating to it in that way and so I feel like everyone can kind of connect with that.”
