Today the world woke to the of a loss of another incredible star.

In a statement, Prince’s publicist Anna Meacham revealed:

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning.”

Actor Will Smith posted, “I am stunned and heartbroken,” on his official Facebook, revealing online that he had spoken with with Prince hours before his death was announced.

“Jada & I mourn with all of you the loss of a beautiful poet, a true inspiration, and one of the most magnificent artists to ever grace this earth.” Smith wrote, sharing a photo of the star performing in Los Angeles in 1985 at the Forum.

We have since seen a countless number of celebrities and fans, from all over the world, use social media to pay tribute to the Prince of Pop.

Closer to home, Sydney’s Newtwon Fire Station has honoured Prince, with a message on their notice board today.

Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Minneapolis, Paisley Park Studios. Emergency services attempted to revive him, however, he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Prince was a deeply spiritual superstar, an incredible influence to people across the globe and phenomenal artist.

Spike Lee has dedicated an evening to Prince, inviting the community of Brooklyn to come together to mourn and celebrate.

“We will dance, sing and shout to his music,” he promised.

The dress code? Purple.

With no determined cause of death, the ABC has reported that Prince’s autopsy will be conducted on Friday.

He was 57 years old.
