The trailer for the latest X-Men spin off The New Mutants dropped recently, much to the excitement of fans of the franchise.

But The New Mutants isn’t your typical X-Men film, and watching the trailer, it is pretty easy to see why.

There is a pretty creepy looking hallway, some headstones and then there is a kid strapped to a chair. In the background, a haunting rendition of Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd plays. All of which make it pretty damn obvious straight away that this isn’t some new superhero saga. This is a horror film.

Of course, Fox do seem to like to do things differently when it comes to superhero films. If you’ve seen Deadpool, the R-Rated comedy/superhero crossover and Logan, an existential drama/superhero crossover you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. If those films are anything to go by, the horror/superhero crossover is sure to be a huge hit.

Directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), the film is based off the comic book series of the the same name.

The film will star Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as well as Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga and tells the tale of a group of young mutants trapped in a terrifying facility.

Whilst it is not known just yet how exactly the film fits in with X-Men franchise, Boone has confirmed that there will be a connection. Considering how crazy expansive the universe is getting, we can’t wait to see how it will all mesh together.

The New Mutants has been appropriately pegged for release on Friday April 13th, 2017 in the UK and the US. But being Aussie and cool and all it looks like we’re set to have it delivered to our screens on April 12.
