As we enter into the new month and once again have re-learn to write out dates, take solace in the knowledge that the uni semester is almost over and Netflix has some great new movies to procrastinate on assignments with. Although May won’t be quite the TV binge sesh that April was, there’s still a great selection of movies and we’re still pretty pumped for some of these sweet flicks:

Ant-Man — May 2

By now, you should have seen him kicking ass in Captain America: Civil War with some amazing new moves, so it’s time to go back and revisit where it all began. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), a cat-burglar with a scientific mind, must use a suit that shrinks him in scale and gives him profound strength in order to pull off a world saving heist and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglass). Half superhero masterpiece, half Paul Rudd comedy gold, Ant-Man is probably one of my favourite of the stand alone Marvel movies. And the fight scenes are both kickass and adorably tiny.

Schindler’s List — May 4

This one is a little less fun. One of the greatest films of all time with a myriad of academy awards under its belt, this Spielberg masterpiece isn’t exactly a feel good movie, but that shouldn’t put you off. The film follows the life of businessman Oskar Schindler (Laim Neeson), who becomes an unlikely humanitarian during WWII in Nazi Germany. Schindler opens the doors of his factory as a refuge for the Jewish community, taking them on as workers to spare their lives. Obviously no movie set during WWII is going to leave you happy inside, but this is a testament to the good will of men and a powerful film. Just don’t use this one for your Netflix and Chill’

12 Years A Slave — May 6

This is another somber film – it kind of seems like Netflix is determined to give us the Autumn blues, so settle in for a mopey month. Boasting a star studded cast, 12 Years a Slave takes place in upstate New York just before the American Civil War… for about 20 minutes. Then Solomon Northup (played by ultimate bae, Chiwetelu Ejiofor), a free African American man, is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the deep south. The story is of his struggle through a painfully tough life as a slave as he works to contact his family and regain his freedom. This film is so moving and you will probably cry, but it’ll be a fulfilling cry. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.

Jaws Series— May 25

More like a longer day, amiright? source

Got any plans for May 25th? NO! THESE ARE YOUR PLANS NOW! Not one, not two but three Jaws movies will be gracing Netflix on May 25th and you

would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t barricade yourself in your living room and watch all of them. I mean, who needs an income, education or social life when you have a strangely homicidal shark? The first Jaws introduces us to our great white shark friend and Sheriff Martin Brody who must blow him up. Fair enough. Then, as if this small town hasn’t suffered enough, ANOTHER great white shark begins attacking people four years later in Jaws 2, and Body goes to town on it as well. Then, finally, in Jaws 3, Brody’s sons, Michael and Sean Brody, start working in Sea World in Florida. And who follows them there? That’s right, a bloody great white shark. Seriously, why wouldn’t this family just move inland? While these movies aren’t great, or even really good, the cringe-ness of the last two make this pack an amazing binge movie session.
