Netflix Keen to Continue 'Gilmore Girls' Revival

Netflix’s release of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life late last year proved to be a success, and showed how both new and long-time fans of the series were not yet ready to leave the picture book town of Stars Hollow.

Those last four words in the ‘Fall’ chapter left many questions unanswered (WHO IS RORY’S BABY DADDY?). And with all the nostalgia that came along with seeing what your favourite characters are up to after the original show ended in 2007, it’s no wonder fans are begging Netflix for more.

This week, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos has given us hope that we may have not seen the last of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. He stated that Netflix was in “very preliminary” talks with the show creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, about the possibility of new episodes.

“We hope [there are more installments]. We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped,” Sarandos said.

Sherman-Palladino, however, has previously stated that she had no plans to continue the story as the ending of the revival is what she always envisioned, but “wasn’t going to say no” to the possibility.

With the revival pulling in nearly six million viewers in the first few days of its release, and television and film reboots being all the rage, there is no doubt that Netflix would want to capitalise on that.

Whilst talks are still in their infancy, it may be a while till we see a new installment as some of it’s biggest stars have other roles lined up – Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) is set to star in FOX’s new sitcom, Linda from HR and Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano) is currently starring in the smash-hit drama, This is Us.

I don’t know about you but I’ll take any news I can get about the possibility of new Gilmore Girls eps. Hopefully we won’t have to wait another nine years…
