The first trailer for the film My Friend Dahmer has just been released, and this production is set to be a complex and spine tingling insight into one of America’s most notorious serial killers.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s crimes were among the most disturbing in America’s history. He had a total of 17 victims that were reported, and just some of the graphic crimes included sexual assault, murder and cannibalism.

The film is an adaptation of the 2012 popular graphic novel written by a former classmate and friend of Dahmers, John ‘Derf’ Backderf.

My Friend Dahmer is set in the 1970’s, when Jeffrey Dahmer was in high school. Former Disney star Ross Lynch plays the troubled teen, the role a far stretch from the peppy, coif haired Austin in the Disney original Austin and Ally.

The captivating trailer gives us a glimpse into Dahmer’s troubled existence. We witness his turbulent home life, startling outbursts at school and an eerie obsession with bones. Ross Lynch captures the the cold, apathetic nature of the character completely, and has set this film up to be a must-see.

Lynch told Rolling Stone magazine that he was excited for this new role,”I thought it was awesome to just be unpredictable. Hopefully my next role could be something that most people won’t expect from me.”

The film will also feature Vincent Kartheiser as Dahmer’s doctor, Anne Heche as Dahmer’s mother and Alex Wolff as Dahmers friend ‘Derf’. It premiered at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival in April, and is set to be released later this year.
