Mahershala Ali has announced on Instagram that he could be starring in the not-yet-official-but-oh-so-likely third instalment of the HBO series True Detective.

Technically phrases like “not officially greenlit” and “in talks” are being used.
If Ali did sign on he would join the ranks of Colin Farrel, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams.
The Moonlight actor already has a supporter among these ranks. McConaughey said on Ali joining the cast,
“I think it’s awesome. I worked with (Ali) on Free State (of Jones) and he’ll be a great fit, because I know whatever’s coming out of Nic’s writing mind, it’s heady and hardcore. It’s a very harsh reality. Mahershala’s got heavy feet. He’s grounded and rooted, and doesn’t have (an) attitude. There’s no room for attitude in Nic’s writing.”
Ali isn’t new to the acting world but his latest set of projects are what shot him to super stardom. Moonlight of course being the most notable, and for which Ali won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Ah, we hope we get season three of True Detective with Mahershala Ali as the star!
