Saying goodbye to The Good Wife was a tearful experience. The last we saw, Alicia Florrick (played by Julianna Margulies) stood in shock after being slapped across the face by her old boss Dianne Lockhart (Christine Baranski).

However, fear not! We get a spin-off titled The Good Fight that follows Christine Baranski’s character a year after the close of The Good Wife.

But we won’t be seeing any of Alicia Florrick in this new series.

“We talked to Julianna about the show and her relationship with it and Julianna and we agreed that The Good Wife ended that story. It would be kind of weird if she comes in and you see her in the background,” said Robert King, one of the show’s creators.

Alicia and her husband, Peter, will be mentioned in the show, but you will never see them on-screen.

So, that’s a little disappointing, but it doesn’t mean we are saying goodbye to all our old favourites.

“The whole point of the show is to try to treat the world as if it’s real and that you might bump into Carrie Preston [who played Elsbeth Tascioni] walking down the hall so we want to keep that alive,” it is explained.

The show features an all star cast, from Christine Baranski to Cush Jumbo and Rose Leslie.

Christine explained her excitement over the series, stating, “We spoke about how she processed all that had happened to her, particularly in those final episodes, and where her life was as the new show began in terms of her marriage, in terms of her position at the firm.”

The Good Wife is a show that has never shied away from discussing issues. There were episodes on morality in medicine, drone strikes, surrogacy rights and the grey shades of the law. The Good Fight will be no different, according to producer and writer Michelle King.

“I think that’s particularly interesting in this show, because the legal parts of the show are not really about finding the truth, they are about who tells the best story.”It’s always been about who puts across the bigger lie or the better lie, the more convincing lie, so it kind of plays into what we love,” she said.

Either way, we absolutely can’t wait to see how The Good Fight will turn out.
