Saying the name ‘Hannibal Lecter’ aloud will provoke reactions from two types of fans; the ones entranced by the awe-inspiring performance of Sir Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs, or the ones mesmerized by Bryan Fuller’s psychological thriller Hannibal.

And if you were a member of the latter, chances are you were devastated in 2015, when it was announced that the show’s third season would be it’s last.

Yes, to the deep sadness of the Hannibal fandom, showrunner Bryan Fuller announced that the show had been been cancelled. He claimed that a drop in the show’s ratings was to blame, despite widespread critical acclaim. The show ran for another two months, with the final episode of a particularly grisly season 3 ending on August 27th 2015.

Since then, the aforementioned fandom desperately searched for ways that the show could continue, with the creation of a TV movie and switching the show to a different channel being the most popular ideas.

But each plan failed, along with a rather disheartening message from Fuller himself, stating that plans to revive Hannibal couldn’t be made for “at least two years after” the show’s cancellation.

Ladies and gentlemen, those two years have passed.

On August 9th, Bryan Fuller received a tweet from a Hannibal fan by the username of SassyNourah. The tweet curtly reminding him that the two years had passed and asked him for a report on the revival’s progress. Fuller was quick to reply, but only with a vague answer that there were “conversations” being had to bring Hannibal back, but those were in the early stages and being handled by Martha de Laurentiis, matricarch of The de Laurentiis Company, who played a major role in Hannibal’s production.

There has been very little word on the process of the talks, but things are looking positive based on this tweet:

Will this cult-classic receive the revival fans have been waiting for? Well, let’s just hope that these photos are a taste of what’s yet to come.
