The Cannes Film Festival is one of the entertainment industry’s premier events. For Australians, it is what the Easter Show is to show bags. Running from May 11th-22nd, the film to open this year’s festival was the Cafe Society, directed and written by Woody Allen.
While not out till September 1st in Australia, we can still have a taste of the film to come thanks to the trailer above. The film boasts an all-star cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carrell, Blake Lively, and Parker Posey as an ensemble of characters in 1930’s Los Angeles. This is yet another representation of Woody Allen’s unique film style that is hard to put into words (although some might be awkward, charming, quirky, deep, and introspective) as he tells the story of a young man (Eisenberg) chasing a dream in the film industry. But instead, the young man finds love and the cafe society that represented the spirit of the time.
