Almighty North Korea’s highly sophisticated and impenetrable, communist version of Facebook, Best Korean Social Network, has totally been hacked by an 18 year old student using the password… “password”.
That’s right, some IT person made the monumental (possibly life threatening) error of not changing the default login from Username: Admin and Password: Password, which gave Andrew McKean, a teenager with zero hacking prowess, the chance to take control of the site hours after it went live.
He basically had full control of the site, telling Motherboard he could “delete and suspend users, change the site’s name, censor certain words, manage ads and see everyone’s emails.”
Given the scariness of the North Korean government and the outrage over the Seth Rogen–James Franco comedy, The Interview, McKean wisely chose not to mess around too much or insult Kim Jong-un personally. Instead, he just left the humble message: “Uh, I didn’t create this site just found the login.”
The Korean social network has since been taken offline and the network administrators have not been found for questioning. Let’s just hope for their sake they already made a getaway, if not they better have some pretty sweet excuses.
