When you think of wholesome family movies that should absolutely not have an R rating, I’m guessing Mrs. Doubtfire is somewhere at the top of the list. Turns out there are R-rated cuts in existence, and quite frankly it is a matter of national urgency that they get released. 

“The reality is that there was a deal between Robin [Williams] and myself, which was, he’ll do one or two, three scripted takes. And then he would say, ‘Then let me play.’ And we would basically go on anywhere between 15 to 22 takes, I think 22 being the most I remember,” director Chris Columbus told Entertainment Weekly.

“He would sometimes go into territory that wouldn’t be appropriate for a PG-13 movie, but certainly appropriate and hilariously funny for an R-rated film.”

Columbus also said that he was open to one day making a documentary about the production of the film, so we might still get to see some of the clips yet. In the meantime though, please join me in imagining for a second what other Robin Williams films could have R-rated content without us knowing about it.

Good Morning Vietnam (1987)

It’s a well-known movie fact that most of what Williams said while on the radio in Good Morning Vietnam was improvisation, so I’d say there are almost certainly some clips that breach the bounds of 1987 cinema etiquette.

Dead Poets Society (1989)

I think this one is the one I want to see cuts from the most. I need footage of Robin Williams standing on a desk giving a powerful speech about R-rated shenanigans. 

Aladdin (1992)

I thought of Genie first, you thought of Genie first, It makes sense. Although we already know the urban legend about Disney legally owning tons and tons of cartoon porn, so maybe that’s why these two images fit together.

Night At The Museum (2006)

There was already some freaky stuff happening in that museum, it probably wouldn’t be too much of a leap to assume some freaky stuff was happening too. For some reason I thought this movie came out about 7 years ago though, not 15, and now I feel a million years old.
