Terrifying scenes from Nice, France hit screens across the world this morning as reports emerge of a suspected terrorist attack during Bastille Day celebrations.

At least 80 people are dead and a further 100 injured after a truck drove at high speeds through a popular promenade during a fireworks display in the south of France.

Nice Mayor, Christian Estrosi, posted to Twitter earlier this morning announcing:

“the driver of a truck seems to have left dozens dead”

“The people of Nice , the driver of a truck seems to have left dozens dead. For now stay in your homes. More info to come”

After plowing through crowds of revellers, the truck driver then engaged in a shoot-out with police before being shot dead.

It is still unclear what motivated the driver of the truck, as reports emerge that the truck was also full of weapons.

Footage of the panic and aftermath of the attack are flooding Twitter at the moment.
