My, have we come a long way since the days of Internet Explorer (unless you’re a university lecturer in which case you probably still use it just to torture the students trying not to scream at your inept understanding of technology). One of the best web browsers available, free of cost, is Google Chrome and today we are here to give you a taste of the magic that is Chrome plugins.
AdBlocker Plus
Ok, so if you’ve ever used Google Chrome before, you probably already know this is an actual thing (if so proceed to plugin #2). AdBlocker Plus does exactly what you’d expect – it blocks ads. Everything from those annoying ads before YouTube videos to those ads on Facebook that think they know you just because you’ve bookmarked every online shopping page known to mankind. It’s also super nifty in blocking malware and protecting your privacy too.
Go Fucking Work
If, like me, you can’t finish a paragraph on your major essay due in twelve hours without refreshing your Facebook feed then do I have the plugin for you! Go Fucking Work redirects your page from any “unproductive sites” to pages with motivational messages such as “WORK YOU FUCKING FAILURE” and “WORK YOU FUCKITY FUCK”. Super handy now that the uni semester is downhill from here (downhill to hell that is)
Honey
Now this is my all time favourite plugin. Honey collects online shopping codes entered by other honey users and brings them together into one neat list at the top of your webpage. No more frantic googling for Iconic.com codes when you’ve found the perfect pair of kicks, simply open the Honey icon at the top of your Chrome page and click “Try codes” and Honey does all the work for you. Don’t think the plugin just works on sites like ASOS and SurfStich, it also gives you coupon codes for Dominos Pizza and if that isn’t reason enough to give this plugin the MVP award then I don’t know what is.
PanicButton
Whether you’re having some quality self-time in your room or buying a secret present for someone, we’ve all been in the sitch of needing to close our tabs ASAP. PanicButton allows users to quickly exit their screen while saving your tabs for later use when the coast is clear. Don’t want to keep the tabs you closed? No problem just delete the temporary bookmark folder in your bookmark panel and you are good to go my friend.
Grammarly
Are you one of those people who hasn’t quite grasped the proper use of “your” and “you’re” yet? Or maybe you never reached the top ten in your schools spelling bee? No worries! Grammarly is a Chrome plugin that automatically checks your spelling and grammar as you type. It works on everything from your comments on Facebook to emails and posts to Moodle. You can even visit their website and upload your essays for a quick proofread before you send them off to your tutor. Download it and watch the HDs roll in.
