Selena Gomez is the whole reason why ’13 Reasons Why’ became a miniseries. Gomez, as executive producer, became a huge fan of the book series and decided that the world needed to see a film adaptation. While the first pitch of the miniseries was that Gomez would star in the leading role as Hannah Baker, she soon took a step back and has been a driving force behind the show ever since.

The show isn’t without its controversy, however, with some people saying that it shouldn’t get a second season, despite the fact that it is getting a second season. It has also been criticised for glorifying suicide and sexual assault, which are both prevalent plot points in the show.

Selena Gomez couldn’t be more excited about the fact that there’s going to be a second season of this show. She recently dropped some sneaky hints to Seattle’s Movin’ 92.5 radio station.

Gomez said:

“I’m so excited for season two. I think it’s going to be so exciting because you know, I didn’t expect the first to be as loud if you will? I didn’t expect it to have the reaction that it did. It was amazing, and it was complicated, and there was a lot of stuff that came with it, and I understood what that meant.”

It’s a good thing she understands what it meant, because I honestly have no idea what she’s talking about. Maybe they sprung this question on her because it’s not the most articulate thing I’ve ever read.

Although the book only describes what happened in season one, fans are definitely excited about the prospect of a second season; although, die-hard book fans are very confused as to what exactly it’s going to be about.

Gomez cleared that up a tiny bit in the radio interview, saying:

“…I think for season 2, we elaborate more on some of those questions and the stories and the resolution if you will of what some of these kids have gone through so—and are going through.”

It’ll be interesting to see if they can make 8 episodes out of that statement, but with no release date in sight, I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see.
