David Morrissey, who is well known for is role as Governor in The Walking Dead, has said that if offered the chance, he’d like to play the Doctor in Doctor Who. The spot has been played most recently by actor Peter Capaldi, who decided to take his leave after the 10th season’s completion.
Doctor Who is a show about a Time Lord who travels through space and time in a blue telephone box called the TARDIS. Although it sounds a bit out there for some, Morrisey is clearly a fan. He has featured on the show before in 2008, with the Tenth Doctor, who was played by David Tennant.
David Morrissey has shared his excitement, stating;
“Yes, if we could have a conversation I would definitely put it in my mix. I think it’s a brilliantly run, brilliantly written show. I would be surprised if they come for me but it’s not something I would dismiss [if they did].”
The 52-year-old actor has been rumoured to be taking on the role of the Doctor in the past, after he featured in the Christmas special. However, the role did go to Matt Smith. That didn’t stop show producer Russell T. Davies from telling Morrissey to run with the rumour.
“He said just don’t tell anyone that it’s not you. And I said, ‘OK, but I can tell my kids, can’t I?’ And he was like, ‘No, no because they’ll tell someone in the playground and then they’ll tell someone else and somebody’s dad will work for the BBC and that’ll be it.’ So my kids for the best part of nine months were asking me if I was going to be Doctor Who and I couldn’t tell them.”
David Morrissey has said that he’d been keen to play the Doctor because of he insecurity of being an actor, you never know what is going to happen next!
Hopefully Morrissey will be considered for the role. It’s clear that he’s eager to give it a go, and we always need a new Doctor!
