There’s nothing quite like seeing a film at the cinema. The smell of salty popcorn, queuing in a line with dozens of other excited movie-goers …the outrageous price for anything at the candy bar and sticky floors (uhhh I hope that’s soft drink!). Okay, there are some downsides, but we can all agree the film is the most important thing. Except it seems every time I go to the movies lately it’s to see a remake, an adaption, or a sequel to a movie that definitely doesn’t seem to need a sequel. What’s the deal, Hollywood?

I don’t know about you, but there’s only so many times I can see the same story played out on the big screen with a few tweaks here and there.

Pretty much…

But our prayers have been answered by Pixar in the form of an upcoming original film in lieu of anymore sequel films!

Well ok, there’s still the three sequel films already slated for release between now and 2019 including the forth instalment to the Toy Story franchise (how do we all feel about this? I was content after farewelling Andy and the gang already!); Cars 3despite the first sequel being a pretty big flop, and the long awaited Incredibles 2. Ok …I’ll admit I’m damn excited for this one.

Yasssssssssssssss.

But, the next great original flick we’re keen for is Coco, and it sounds like it’ll be a hit. It looks colourful, has an adorable little main character by the name of Miguel, and the script was penned by Adrian Molina, who previously wrote Monsters University and Ratatouille. I think we’re in safe hands.

The film takes inspiration from the traditional Mexican holiday, Día de Muertos, which takes place every year at the end of October to honour the dead. The film follows 12-year-old Miguel as he conjures up an extraordinary family reunion between the living and the dead. It sounds like it’ll be a wonderful exploration culture and tradition.

Pretty snazzy looking logo!

Pixar have also promised that another two original films are in the works but are keeping any details regarding these a secret. I’m just happy they’re going back to the roots of storytelling and giving us something new to enjoy! We’ll await eagerly for any more news.
