Everyone’s favourite scheming president, Frank Underwood, has returned in a new trailer for what looks to be an intense new season of Netflix’s series, House of Cards.

A soundtrack featuring tension building drums, the trailer for season five shows snippets of Underwood during his campaign trail, telling his wife, Claire: “The American people don’t know what’s best for them. I do. I know exactly what they need.”

The self-confidence exhibited by Frank in the trailer is nothing new. In fact, the scheming seems only to be growing bigger and better with the position of power Frank’s been bestowed.

It has been more than a year since Season four of House of Cards was released on Netflix (like that’s unusual for any television show this year).

Season four followed Frank as he dealt with the consequences of becoming president of America. The new season is set to pick up right where the previous left off – with Frank more hungry than ever for power.

As he promises in the trailer, “2016, 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036. One nation. Underwood.”

There are also some pretty dark and bloody snippets in the new clip, which suggests that Frank may be willing to do whatever it takes to stay in power.

Kevin Spacey is set to return as President Underwood and Robin Wright will once again reprise in the role of Claire Underwood.

The fifth season also stars Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Neve Campbell, Derek Cecil, Paul Sparks and Joel Kinnaman.

House of Cards has won six Emmys since its 2013 series premiere and was also the television show which kicked off Netflix’s rapid rise.

However, the new season will be the first without show creator Beau Williamson.

We cannot wait to see where all of President Underwood’s scheming leads in the new season.

You can watch the official trailer below. The new season is set to premiere May 30 on Netflix.
