Fifth Harmony has become ‘Fourth Harmony’ after revealing that singer Camila Cabello has left the girl group, after being formed on the second season of X Factor USA.

The group shared a post via Twitter announcing that after four and a half years together, Cabello had parted ways with Fifth Harmony.

Despite her departure, remaining members Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane Hansen, Lauren Jauregui and Normani Kordei have confirmed that they will continue.

The group wrote:

“We are four strong, committed women who will continue with Fifth Harmony as well as our solo endeavours… We are excited for our future, and we can’t wait for what the new year brings.”

The post suggests that the group had only been notified of Cabello’s departure through her representatives.

Cabello posted her own statement on Twitter, revealing that she was ‘shocked’ to read what the other girls had posted and denied that she had blindsided the group.

She wrote:

“The girls were aware of my feelings through the long, much needed conversations about the future that we had during tour. Saying they were informed by my representatives that I was “leaving the group” is simply not true.”

Fans are even comparing her departure to when Zayn Malik left One Direction back in March 2015.

Cabello’s departure has come after months of speculation that the singer was leaving the group to pursue a solo career. Over the past year she has collaborated with Shawn Mendes on I Know What You Did Last Summer and her duet with Machine Gun Kelly, reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 just last week.
